A home office desk is the most important piece of furniture in most of the home offices in the UK. It is not only the largest furniture item in a home office but it is also the most noticeable one too. It is, therefore, important to decide about the location of the home office desk. There are various factors to consider before finalising the location and direction of the home office desk. Here are a few of the things that you should consider before placing a desk in your home office.

External Environment

If you are running a home office in the UK and have kids at home then your office desk should be faced towards the door because then you can keep an eye on what’s going on outside and you will also be able to monitor the movement of the kids if they enter your office. If your office is not at a risk of interference, you can simply place it to the right or left of the door.

Room Shape

The shape and size of your home office is important. If your office is in the shape of a long rectangle, you can place your office desk along the centre of the wall to add a bit of dimension and design to the room. You can place other items on both sides to allow easy access. However, if your home office is in the shape of a square, you should place it against the side wall.

Windows

Windows are good for natural light but having a window in line with or directly behind your office desk makes it difficult to look at computer or laptop screen. It is important to avoid placing your office desk in line with your windows especially if your windows are directed towards east or west. If you cannot avoid it, you should make sure that you have good window blinds or shades.

Easy Movement

Place your office desk in a way that does not hinder your easy access and movement. You should be able to easily move within your office and access your required items.
